Nitisha comes from Seltipada Village in Tapi District, Gujarat State. This village is a temporary settlement allocated by the government after her original village was completely destroyed by a flood. Her parents abandoned her and is in the custody of her distant relative who himself does not have a job. She is practically starving and her only possession being the clothes on her back. When/if she attends school only goes two or three times out of the month. Fishing is the only occupation in this village and the river has been completely dried out for the last two years. She wants to study and become a government officer.
